Pink Day in Buntings Class

Buntings class had a fabulous day dressing in pink and helping to raise money for breast cancer research. We also supported the charity by bringing in cakes to sell at our school bake sale and buying pink wristbands.

English Open Morning in Terns

Our first challenge was to collaborate in groups and list our ideas for a successful poem.

We gave ourselves a chip every time we contributed an idea.

Mrs. Humphreys sent our lists to the Ideas Factory then they sent back a Pink envelope for each group.
In that pink envelope was a checklist so we could self-assess our poem to make sure that we were successful!

Our lovely Mums and Dads helped us use our plans to write our poem.

Lastly, we used our checklists to make sure that we were successful.

English Open Morning in Buntings

We had a fantastic morning welcoming our parents into Buntings class at English Open morning. The parents shared in our learning and helped us to write and perform poems. We used the wonderful city that we live as inspiration for our class poem. Have a listen and see what you think....can you spot any similes? any alliteration? any rhyme?

Thanks to everyone who attended. For those of you who couldn't make it we didn't want you to miss out... so here's our poem.

A very special visit

We have been lucky enough to have an actual author visit us in school!!!
Chris White came to see us to give us a master-class in writing.
Year 3 and 4 spent almost an hour participating in his workshop.
He was extremely entertaining and the children had a fantastic time.

As amazing as Year 3 Ravens

This week we have been looking at improving our work by including similes.
We saw some very inventive writing!

BAD thinking in Buntings!

We have been using our skills of prediction and our BAD thinking to explain what we will think will happen in our latest Science experiment. Listen to Professor George (Lalit from Buntings) use his BAD thinking to explain his prediction.

What do you think will happen when we take the leaves off a plant?

Mad Hatters Tea Party

Wow! What an amazing time we had at our Mad Hatters Tea Party last Wednesday. Mad hats, adventure stories, singing and cakes were the perfect start to our day! Look at our pictures below.

The party kicked off with the children performing the song “Wonderland” to all the parents. Beautiful singing filled the air and the thunderous applause showed just how impressed our audience were. Next the children joined their parents to share their amazing adventure stories. Every child worked incredibly hard to produce their own adventure story book and the teachers were bursting with pride watching them confidently read them to their friends and parents.

When the children finished reading their stories it was time to eat! Everyone took their seats at the long tables and the party commenced. There were so many yummy cakes and treats and everyone enjoyed their party food with a nice cup of tea. Thank you for all the donations. As Erin from Ravens said “This is the best party I’ve ever been to!”.

Thank you to all the parents and people that came to support our Tea Party and to the parents that helped us to serve the children. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! The children absolutely loved showcasing their writing and it was definitely a highlight of our year so far. We look forward to seeing you all again at our next Year 3 event…details to follow soon!

Buntings are Artists

In preparation for our Mad Hatters Tea Party this week Buntings class have been learning the artistic skill of layering. First we drew the main character from our story and then we used lots of different coloured tissue paper to layer the paper over our character. The results were brilliant and we are so proud of our work. Some Year 5 children even came to get involved!

Months of the Year Song

Year 3 Buntings have been learning about how many days are in each month. We learnt this little rhyme today in maths to help us. Have a listen to how fabulous we are! One of our targets is to understand what a leap year is.
Can you explain what a leap year is?

Good luck.

Super Scientists in Curlews!

This week we have been finishing our investigation using celery. We wanted to know how plants drink water - we used coloured water to show how plants suck up water through the stem into the leaves. We even cut the stem to see inside the plant, and used a microscope to see in fantastic detail.

What happens if we take the leaves off a plant?

In Science, we continued to look at plants and how they grow. This week we looked at our two plants (in Ravens we called them Cimic and Apple).

We cut the leaves off Apple. Ouch!

What do you think will happen to these plants?

Maths strategies

This week in Ravens we worked really hard to evaluate groups of objects and solve missing number problems. We wrote our own strategies that might help Year 1 and 2 pupils to do this also.

Adventure Story Plan

We have almost finished writing our adventure stories ready for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

This week we have been using our super plans to guide us through the writing process. Mahra (Terns) used the Story Mountain to help her plan her fabulous adventure story. Then she checked her own work to ensure she had included everything she needed to in order to be successful. Afterwards Mahra gave her plan to a partner so they could check her work too. WOW - Year 3 are so responsible!
