National Day

What an amazing time we had celebrating 45 years of the UAE in our National Day celebrations in school on Tuesday. The children (and teachers) all enjoyed dressing up and Buntings class made a Visitors Guide to Ras Al Khaimah as part of our house activities.

UAE Innovation week

To mark UAE Innovation Week Year 3 have been very busy investigating 2D and 3D shapes. We worked collaboratively to construct different 3D shapes and described their properties. Can you name the shapes that we made?

Shape Sorters

Play 'Guess My Shape'.
Choose a 2D shape and keep it in your head. Get a partner to ask you questions about your shape. You can only answer with 'yes' and 'no'.  How many questions does your partner need to ask before they guess the shape you were thinking of?

The Cormorants can help you as today they were busy learning all about the properties of 2D shapes. Do you have any questions for them?

Buntings Talk the Text

This week in English we have been learning to talk the text in preparation for writing our non-chronological reports. We created symbols for the words and then orally rehearsed our paragraphs. Listen to our group paragraph about the habitat of our sea creature. Can you spot our generalisers?

Read in 7 Challenge!

As part of the UAE's new National Reading Law we stopped everything at 11am today and read for 7 minutes. It was really fun to stop in the middle of our lessons and just read a book! Here are some photos of us reading our books.

Jacques a dit…

This week year 3 have had lots of fun playing Simon Says to learn some classroom commands. We have also used resources on www.linguascope.com. You can access this at home using the login name: alyasmina and password: bravo!

The Robunt

Year 3 Buntings have been orally rehearsing the introduction to their non-chronological reports. Check out the group below called "Kings Of the Sea" who wrote about their creature called the Robunt...only found in Abu Dhabi. Can you give them any tips of what they could do to improve it?

Exploring the Oceans

Have you ever wondered what lives deep in the sea? Cormorants have been busy learning about the ocean.  What is the most awesome creature you have ever seen in the ocean?

Buntings are animal dentists

Year 3 Buntings have been busy today learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We spent the lesson looking at different types of animals and classifying them. We then became dentists and looked at the skulls of the animals and tried to identify which animal they belonged to. We focused on the teeth of the animal and used them to help us identify what kind of animal it was.

Can you guess which animal this skull belongs to? Can you identify if they are a carnivore, a herbivore or an omnivore? How do you know?

Would Boris survive without leaves?

In Terns, we concluded our Science investigation.

Our question was: Would Boris survive without leaves?

Betty is a green plant with leaves.
Boris is a green plant without leaves.

Our measuring monitors kept track of the progress of the plants and we observed that Boris had grown half a cm even though he had no leaves. He also grew new leaves!

We know we have reliable results because the plants were measured the same way every time. We know our test was fair because we gave Boris and Betty the same amount of LAW (light, air and water).

We cannot wait for the next experiment!

National Day Fun!

With National Day fast approaching we've got a fantastic competition to complete - get your form below and complete it, handing the answers to your Arabic teacher.

Good luck!

Thanks to Miss Yasmin Shadeh for organising such a fun competition!

Identifying and sorting animal teeth in Ravens

We found out about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
We found out which animals belonged to each category.
We looked at the skulls of different animals to find out what they ate.
Did they have have canines for holding meat and tearing it apart?
Or molars for crushing and grinding their fruit and vegetables?

Buntings Eatwell Plate

This week Buntings class have been learning about what makes a healthy diet. What different food groups do you think we need to maintain a healthy diet?

We made a giant eatwell plate on the carpet and sorted different packaging into each food group. Have a look at our learning.

Curlews ICT

Curlews have been introduced to the Scratch software. What is an algorithm? Can you give an example of an algorithm?

Here are the Curlews children giving and taking instructions and practising with the Scratch software!
